Supporting local at Club Central Menai

There’s arguably no better time for the whole community to support local businesses. Club Central Menai has made it a priority in 2021 with the decision to support a local brewery and wine label based in Sutherland Shire.

Across an increasingly diverse beverage menu, the team at Club Central Menai has made two notable local additions including Sunday Road Brewery, based in Kirrawee and Stonefish International, which is based in Kurnell.

General Manager of Club Central Menai, Sae-Hwan Kim said it was a priority to support local businesses coming out of the pandemic.

“We decided to stock Sunday Road’s Coast Track Lager on tap because we were looking for an opportunity to support a local business and bring a new taste to our members. It’s an award winning locally brewed beer that tastes phenomenal, so our members are getting a premium product that is produced right here in our own backyard,” said Mr Kim.

“Sunday Road also shares a lot of the same philosophies as we do at Club Central in providing local employment, supporting local community and sporting groups and promoting sustainability in their business, so they fit really well into our business,” he said.

Another Aussie who is making a name on the international stage is Peter Papanikitas, owner of Stonefish International, established in 2000. Club Central Menai has been serving Stonefish wines since 2018.

“We’ve expanded the number of Stonefish wines we stock to twelve including sparkling, rose, pinot gris, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet merlot and shiraz across its Stonefish, Garfish, Lost Turtle and Shell Bay labels.

“The varieties we stock are not available in mainstream bottle shops, so we cater for wine drinkers looking for exclusive, boutique wines that are locally produced,” said Mr Kim.

Another feel good story straight from the pages of the beverage menu is the background of the coffee beans used for the Club’s ever popular espresso martini. These are sourced from Soltura Specialty Coffee, an Australian not-for-profit that sources ethically produced green beans from around the world and supports a range of important global causes.

“Soltura supports micro farmers and fair-trade co-ops sourcing green beans that meet strict quality, organic and biodiversity standards. We use their signature Call organic blend to produce our in-house expresso martini – Spresso – which continues to grow in popularity,” Mr Kim said.
