As part of the Sutherland Shire Business Chamber’s commitment to creating more local jobs, we are launching the SSBC Pathways program.
SSBC Pathways will assist young people to connect with local businesses and help overcome the chronic problem of youth unemployment and underemployment.
The first Pathways initiative is to give local businesses easy access to University of Wollongong (UOW) interns. SSBC has partnered with the UOW to provide local businesses with the opportunity to easily engage young people who are keen to apply their knowledge and enthusiasm to real world situations.
The benefits to local businesses include:
- New ideas that promote innovation and creativity into your organisation
- Professional development opportunity for existing staff to mentor, supervise and lead
- Opportunities to provide feedback that shape what future students learn
- Cost effective recruitment pathways
The Sutherland Shire Business Chamber will be holding a special breakfast event with UOW on 26 June to provide further insight into the Pathways program. Speakers include Nicole Smith from Careers Central and Jorge Perez from Faculty of Business, and our very own David Querzoli.
Each speaker will give an overview of the types of engagements (paid and unpaid) that you can arrange with these great young people. Following our speakers, we will have an open Q&A session.
SSBC is targeting 30 internships this year – come along and find out how you could be one of the businesses that benefit from Pathways while giving a young person a much-needed opportunity.
There will also be the chance for you to spruik your business and generate new sales for the next financial year.
