Nominations are now open for enthusiastic and engaged SSBC Members interested in joining our dynamic and evolving Board of Directors. This is a great way to contribute to your local community and develop skills and experience as a Board Member. It’s also a great way to support the local economic and jobs outcomes for all businesses.
If you wish to nominate or be nominated, you must be an existing Member with your member fees paid up to date. If you are not currently a member, you can join easily online here.
As a nominee you will be expected to attend our Virtual After 5 Drinks Networking event at 5pm on 10th September to give a short presentation on why you should be elected to the Board.

Please review the following descriptions for each available position and what is expected of our Board Directors.
Vice President
The role of the Vice President is to shadow the President in providing leadership and responsibility for the organisation and the Board and to step into the President’s roles where needed.
Desirable Attributes:
The Vice President should:
- be well informed of all organisation activities and able to provide oversight
- be a person who can develop good relationships internally and externally
- be willing to step in for the President where needed including chairing meetings
- be forward thinking and committed to meeting the overall goals of the SSBC
- have a good working knowledge of the Board Constitution, rules and duties of office bearers
- be able to work collaboratively with other Board Members
- be a good listener and attuned to the interests of members and other interest groups
- be a good role model and a positive image for the SSBC in representing the Board in other forums
- be a competent public speaker
- be able to raise concerns with the President where they arise
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- In the event of the President being unable to fulfill his/her duties to step into that role
- In the absence of the President, chair Board meetings ensuring that they are run efficiently and effectively
- Be an alternate signatory for the SSBC for legal purposes and financial purposes
- Assist the President in deciding which matters are dealt with by the Executive, the full Board and delegated
- Coordinate SSBC planning to ensure appropriate plans are developed, presented to and reviewed by the Board, and enacted as required
- Represent the SSBC at meetings and forums as agreed with by the President
- Other duties as nominated by the President and / or Board
- Attend at least 80% of meetings and majority of events.
Board Member
The Board Member should:
- be a person who is enthusiastic about being a volunteer and an active participant in all activities
- be a person who can develop good relationships
- be in regular communication with the Board.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Work with the Board on SSBC activities and events
- Actively participate in meetings through the sharing of information and ideas
- Advocate for the SSBC in the wider community
- Assist Office Holders including the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary as required
- Attend at least 80% of meetings and majority of events.
Secretary
Desirable Attributes:
The Secretary should:
- be organised
- have an understanding of company compliance
- be a good communicator
Secretary role includes:
- Maintain Board and SSBC records
- Manage Minutes of Board meetings, including either recording the Minutes or ensuring the Membership and Marketing Executive does so
- Develop meeting agendas in consultation with the Membership and Marketing Executive and distribute prior to the meeting
- Be familiar with all current SSBC documents
- Be responsible for ensuring that accurate and sufficient documentation exists to meet legal requirements
- Ensure that the records of the SSBC are maintained as required by law and made available when required by authorised persons. These records may include founding documents, lists of Board members, Board meeting Minutes, financial reports, and other official records
- Ensure that official records are maintained of members of the SSBC and Board. He / she ensures that these records are available when required for reports, elections, referenda, other votes, etc.
- Provide an up-to-date copy of the Constitution and bylaws at all meetings.
- Ensure that proper notification is given of Board and SSBC meetings as specified in the rules
- Manage the general correspondence of the Board except for such correspondence assigned to others
- Help and lead the Board in providing systematic communication from the Board to SSBC members and other relevant stakeholders
- Attend at least 80% of meetings and majority of events.
Treasurer
The role of the Treasurer is to be responsible for the financial supervision of the Sutherland Shire Business Chamber (SSBC) to allow the Board to provide good governance. The Treasurer is responsible to regularly report on the SSBC’s financial status to both the Board and the members.

- Good Organisational Skills
- Financial expertise
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Honest/Trustworthy
- Computer skills
- Good communication skills
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide advice to the Board in their management of the SSBC’s finances
- Administer all financial affairs of the SSBC
- Support any required auditing processes
- Receipt of all incoming monies
- Bank all monies received
- Pay all accounts
- Maintain accurate records of all income and expenditure
- Ensure that all receipts and payments concur with bank deposits and withdrawals
- Monthly financial reports – present at monthly committee meetings
- Arrange and despatch invoices for periodical payment
- Issue yearly membership fee
- Keep accurate record of all membership payments
- Be a signatory on SSBC account
- Invoicing sponsors as required
- Attend at least 80% of meetings and majority of events throughout the year.
